Delhi, the Taj Mahal at sunrise, the Ganges at Rishikesh, the pines of Landour and Tehri Lake

Twelve days, eleven nights, six stops through northern India. Not collecting monuments, but feeling five genuinely different sides of North India: Delhi's history and food, the Taj Mahal at first light, the Ganges at Rishikesh, the quiet Himalayan character of Landour, and the lake-and-mountain landscape around Tehri. Every major transfer is followed by lighter time.

A note from your hosts

A journey, not a checklist

The aim isn't to collect monuments. It's to feel five genuinely different sides of North India: Delhi's history and food, the Taj Mahal at first light, the Ganges at Rishikesh, the quiet Himalayan character of Landour, and the lake-and-mountain landscape around Tehri.

Every major transfer is followed by lighter time. Hotels are chosen first for cleanliness, hygiene and location. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included every single day, and one on-ground team looks after every detail from arrival to departure.

A small group of up to ten travellers, with one dedicated vehicle and driver team throughout.

Programme

Day by day

Timings are approximate by design: this trip leaves room to slow down.

Days 1 & 2 2 nights

Delhi

Seven cities, one on top of the other

You arrive to Mughal domes and imperial avenues, and then you sleep. The first day asks nothing of you. The second walks the city's oldest quarters at a human pace: spice lanes, a cycle-rickshaw, and food chosen for flavour rather than photographs.

  1. Day 1 Amsterdam → Delhi

    Arrival & recovery

The moment your flight touches down, you stop having to think. The family meets you at arrivals, your bags are handled, and a private car takes you straight to a clean, comfortable room. Today has one job: rest.

    • Airport meet & greet and private transfer
    • No scheduled sightseeing at all
    • Included lunch and a light early dinner

    Night — Delhi

  2. Day 2 Delhi

    Old & New India

Delhi doesn't need to be conquered in a day, so we don't try. A late start eases you into Chandni Chowk with a private guide, a cycle-rickshaw and food tastings. Then the afternoon opens up entirely, and one unhurried New Delhi stop closes the evening.

    • Guided Old Delhi experience with food tastings
    • Free afternoon: pool, spa or rest
    • One key New Delhi heritage stop, no monument marathon
    • Dinner at a contemporary Indian restaurant

    Night — Delhi

Days 3 & 4 1 night

Agra

The one unmissable morning

We come down the expressway the afternoon before and keep the evening early, because marble turning from grey to rose to white, in near silence, is a different monument entirely from the one the midday crowds see.

  1. Day 3 Delhi → Agra

    The road to the Taj

An easy morning run south on the expressway, around four hours with a proper break for tea and clean facilities. We check in for lunch, rest through the afternoon, and keep the Taj Mahal itself for tomorrow's sunrise.

    • Approx. 3.5–4.5 hours, with one planned comfort stop
    • Afternoon rest, no programme
    • Optional sunset at Agra Fort or Mehtab Bagh
    • Early dinner before the Taj morning

    Night — Agra

  2. Day 4 Agra → Rishikesh

    Taj Mahal at first light

Everyone tells you the Taj Mahal is beautiful. Nothing prepares you for watching it emerge from the mist at sunrise, in near silence, before the day's first crowds. It's the unmissable moment of the trip, which is why today asks nothing else of you beyond the road north.

    • Sunrise at the Taj with a private guide, unhurried photography
    • Full breakfast back at the hotel afterwards
    • The trip's longest drive: 7–8 hours with meal and comfort stops
    • Evening arrival in Rishikesh; day 5 is a deliberate recovery day

    Night — Rishikesh

Days 4 & 5 2 nights

Rishikesh

Where the Ganges leaves the mountains

This is where the trip exhales: a riverside wellness property, optional sunrise yoga, and long unclaimed afternoons. Evenings end at the Ganga Aarti: fire, chanting, and thousands of floating lamps carried away on the current.

  1. Day 5 Rishikesh

The Ganges & a recovery day

The hardest driving is behind you. Move at the pace of the river: optional sunrise yoga, a slow walk along the Ganges, and long stretches of unclaimed time before an evening at the Aarti that stays with people long after the trip ends.

    • Optional morning yoga session
    • Ganges walk, an ashram neighbourhood and the riverside cafés
    • Long free afternoon: spa, pool, reading or a walk of your own
    • Evening Ganga Aarti, then dinner by the river

    Night — Rishikesh

Days 6 & 7 2 nights

Landour

Pine, mist, and nothing to prove

A short, scenic climb is all that separates the Ganges from the pines. Landour is a colonial-era hill town above Mussoorie: deodar forest, lanes too narrow for hurry, a beloved old bakery worth the walk, and, on a clear morning, the high Himalaya along the horizon.

  1. Day 6 Rishikesh → Landour / Mussoorie

    Into the foothills

A short, scenic climb of under three hours, with a viewpoint stop for tea. As the road winds upward and the air turns cool, Landour feels like a different country entirely, and the afternoon is kept open so you actually get to enjoy arriving.

    • Approx. 2.5–3.5 hours with a scenic comfort stop
    • Afternoon rest: hotel, garden, balcony or spa
    • Gentle evening orientation walk, then dinner

    Night — Landour / Mussoorie

  2. Day 7 Landour / Mussoorie

    A Himalayan slow day

No alarm, no agenda. An easy heritage walk through Landour's quiet lanes, a stop at a beloved local bakery, and a wide-open afternoon. A book on a balcony with mountain air is, for many guests, the best hour of the whole trip.

    • Landour heritage & forest walk at an easy pace
    • Char Dukan / local bakery stop
    • Completely free afternoon, no compulsory activity
    • Optional sunset viewpoint, then a relaxed mountain dinner

    Night — Landour / Mussoorie

Days 8 & 9 2 nights

Tehri Lake

Turquoise water, Garhwal mountains

The road drops deeper into Garhwal, past Dhanaulti's pine forests, toward a vast reservoir held behind one of Asia's tallest dams. Tehri isn't a town stop: it's a lake resort stay in its own right, and for many guests the most unexpected highlight of the journey.

  1. Day 8 Mussoorie → Tehri-meer

From hill station to the lake

Four to five hours of mountain road, broken by a scenic stop at Dhanaulti and a proper sit-down lunch. We arrive mid-afternoon with nothing scheduled: the property and the view are the programme.

    • Scenic transfer through Dhanaulti's pine forests
    • Lake resort check-in, boat-assisted if the property requires it
    • No formal sightseeing: lake leisure and dinner at the resort

    Night — Tehri Lake

  2. Day 9 Tehri-meer / Chamba

    Dam, lake & water

A gentle, mostly-on-the-water day: a guided look at one of Asia's tallest dams, an easy included boat ride across still water, and, for anyone who wants it, an afternoon of jet skis and banana boats before the lake settles back into calm.

    • Guided Tehri Dam and lake orientation
    • Included group boat ride across the reservoir
    • Optional water sports on demand: jet ski, banana boat, water skiing
    • Free lake time at the end of the day, dinner at the resort

    Night — Tehri Lake

Days 10, 11 & 12 2 nights

Delhi

Back to Delhi, and home

The last stretch is built as a buffer, not a rush: a long but gently-paced drive back to the capital, a final day that's entirely yours, and a departure timed around your flight rather than the clock.

  1. Day 10 Tehri → Delhi

    Back to the capital

Seven to eight hours taken slowly, with two proper stops and a full sit-down lunch. Nothing is asked of you on arrival: just check in and let the day end quietly.

    Night — Delhi

  2. Day 11 Delhi

    Your final India day

Markets and crafts if you want a last taste of Delhi, or simply a late breakfast, a spa and slow packing. Either way it ends with a farewell dinner and good stories.

    Night — Delhi

  3. Day 12 Delhi → Amsterdam

    Homeward

No programme, no early alarm beyond what your flight requires. A private transfer to the airport, and twelve days of India to unpack slowly at home.

Good to know

The programme is the plan, not a promise per minute: weather, roads and trains in India sometimes have an opinion of their own. If something shifts, the family on the ground arranges an equivalent alternative, and you hear about it first.

Travelling alone and want your own room? Then the single room supplement applies. Travelling alone and sharing is also possible; we pair you with a travel companion of the same gender.
